Chiropractic care helps manage the aches and pains that come with aging. As arthritic changes take place, it is important to have your joints checked and to engage in activities that maintain range of motion. Beyond relief of aches and pain, chiropractic care has many benefits for the aging population. Some of the benefits include:
Some people assume that chiropractic procedures might be too forceful for the elderly because of the manipulation techniques used by chiropractors. However, techniques used for older patients are gentle and they depend on the patient’s condition. Today’s chiropractic procedures provide a safe, non-invasive and effective treatment plan that reduces the spinal pain and improves mobility and flexibility. Chiropractors are specifically trained in identifying and treating subluxations and the effect they have on the central nervous system. The benefits of chiropractic care for the elderly are endless; they receive the much-needed relief from neck and back pain, digestive problems, insomnia, and arthritic pain. Treatment includes low force muscle release, which is why it’s safe for everyone, including those who suffer from arthritis, osteoporosis, and low bone density.
Chiropractors are trained to know when it is safe or not to adjust around a replaced joint. Treatment will vary depending on the joint replaced, time since surgery, and how well you are healing. Although replaced joints themselves cannot be adjusted, the surrounding tissues can be addressed. Often times with surgery, scar tissue builds up, the gait can change, and other structures besides the one being operated on are affected. Chiropractic care takes the body as a whole into consideration.
The beautiful thing about Chiropractic is the many techniques it boasts. If a position or technique doesn't work for you, we are confident we know an alternative method that will.
